I am in a couple of shows in February, so wanted to share those dates and times with you. I have not been making art lately, but I have been painting a lot of protest signs. Which has been very fulfilling because I paint bunches of signs and bring them to rallies to share. Above you can see my little house with my upside down distress flag and my Abolish ICE sign.
Jessica Craven, (@jesscraven101), one of my go-to sources for information and the author of Chop Wood and Carry Water on Substack, encourages everyone to put signs in front of our homes as a way to let others know that we all need to participate and let our opinions be known. One of my favorite signs says "If You Are Not Resisting, You Are Assisting." And honestly, that's where we are right now. This is the time to speak up in any way that we can to save our democracy. Because Freedom Isn't Free. (another favorite sign!)
FREE POSTER DOWNLOADS
In addition to painting signs, I have been making lots of signs on the computer. And you can download them for FREE on my website. They are PDF's and you can send by email or take them to print at local print shops on 11 x 17, 100# Card Stock. In Eugene, I recommend The Copy Shop (always buy local first!). Otherwise, FedEx or Office Max do a fine job. Posters cost $2-3 to print. Check back because I will keep making new ones. If you have ideas for poster, I’d love to hear them.
Back to the Business of Being an Artist in Eugene...
I am in 3 shows in February:
I am in 3 shows in February!
• The 2026 Mayor's Art Show is at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts in Eugene, through Feb 22. In this juried show, I was asked if my piece could be moved to the new City Hall Gallery after this show closes, and hang there until early summer. That's a YES! And then...someone bought it! I am always kind of sad when someone buys a piece because I get attached. (Above: Blessed Solitude, 18" x 24", Mixed Media/Collage of Magazine Scraps on Repurposed Canvas.)
• Raptors of the Pacific Northwest, is a fundraiser for Cascade Raptor Center, at Emerald Art Center in Springfield. Running from Feb 3-28, there is a reception on Feb 13 from 5-7:30pm. I'll be there for sure. So many wonderful pieces in this show. Mine are the least realistic ones, of course. (Above: Solstice Owl, 8" x 8" Mixed media/paper clay on repurposed wooden panel.
• The Anatomy of Love is at The Hybrid Gallery in Eugene and runs from Feb 4-Mar 14, with a fun Meet-the-Artist reception, including a DJ, on Sunday, Feb 15 from 5-7:30pm. This place is a really cool spot in The Whit, a super creative neighborhood. I have 4 pieces in this show and am looking forward to this party for sure! (Above: If I Could Heal Your Broken Heart, 5" x 7", Mixed Media/Paper Clay in a box frame.)
Thank you for reading my blog. With all the craziness in the world, I hope you have time to make art. It really does soothe the soul.
